Yesterday, the Icelandic Association of Washington D.C. held its annual meeting, and our board has new leadership. At-large board member Elína Ásta Jóhannsdóttir Erlendsson is taking on the role of President of the board, while secretary Katrín Friðriksdóttir will be moving over and relieving Mark Gudnason as Treasurer. Erna Pomrenke is continuing as Vice President.
We are so thankful for all of the hard work this past year by our out-going board members.
Our former President, Sara Edda Clark, brought great energy and vision to everything she worked on. After the pandemic put our June 17 celebrations on ice for those years, Sara Edda was invaluable in bringing back the association’s June 17th festival last summer, with a memorable day for all. For this year’s Thorrablot, her imagination and drive were key to making the event one of the most fun and successful we have had to-date.
Mark Gudnason is leaving the board after two years as treasurer. Working from Land O’Lakes, Florida, Mark has been a solid treasurer, and brought valuable life experience and reason to every meeting. I am particularly grateful for his sense of balance and the perspective he has brought.
Thank you, Mark and Sara Edda, you will both be missed.
Our team is charged and optimistic for 2024-2025 and looking forward to what the year may bring. If you are interested in taking part in planning our coming events and programs, please reach out to any member of the board.
