Special Event – September 9th 2018
The Icelandic Association and Ambassador Geir and Inga Jona will host a special event for members at the Ambassador’s residence on Sunday, September 9, from 3-6. We will gather to celebrate the centenary of Iceland obtaining sovereignty from Denmark. To learn more about the centenary and see how the event is being celebrated in Iceland, visit the website.
Our own celebration in Washington will include a visit from Einar Guðfinnsson, a former member of Iceland’s parliament, and the chair of the parliamentary committee on planning of the celebrations. This will be a family event for members, with live music, drinks and light fare. We plan on having the swimming pool open and setting up an area for childrens’ activities. We hope many members can join us!
