The Icelandic Association is sad to announce the passing of Laufey Árnadóttir Downey, founding member of the Icelandic Association, former Association President, and member since 1969. Laufey died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Clifton, Virginia on March 5th at the age of 92. Born in Reykjavik in 1926, she immigrated to the U.S. after World War II with her husband William G. Downey Jr. (1914 – 1991), and for most of her adult life lived in Northern Virginia. 
Laufey was the adored Matriarch of a large family of 7 children, 23 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. A complete obituary is available at www.fmfh.com. The memorial service is scheduled for Friday, March 22 at 1:00 at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home’s chapel at 9902 Braddock Rd. Fairfax VA 22032
